An attempt to share more and to care less

An attempt to share more and to care less

While I believe my skills lie in the tangible - curating, styling, and displaying - these days, I find myself reaching for pen and paper more and more. Typically, my writings are of a personal nature. As an external processor, journaling has become a way for me to process my emotions, dissect an idea I've been ruminating on, or brainstorm through a challenge. In addition to being an avenue for personal reflection, writing, in more recent years, is something I've found myself craving. Sentences stick in my mind, wishing to be typed or written. Until this point, these musings have been kept to myself or in very rare moments of vulnerability, shared with a close friend.

Writing is one of those things that, to me, feels deeply personal. It's essentially a baring of your thoughts and ideals; when written for yourself, it's a release. When written for others, a layer of self-consciousness and people-pleasing creeps in. However, I do believe there is a sweet spot. A space where I'm writing for myself, but also for you, the reader. The recognition that what's inspiring me, may also inspire you. What's seeking empowerment in me, is also seeking encouragement in you. Therefore, writing feels like the perfect next step for me to take in an attempt to share more. In sharing more though, I'm also striving to care less. Anything worth doing requires a bit of risk and a bit of exposure, but this is the best kind of risk because the reward is always greater than the price. What do I lose by writing more and sharing my thoughts? Nothing. What do I gain? Improved writing (I hope!), deeper connections, more inspiration, another creative outlet, and other positives I'm sure I haven't even considered.

In addition to writing, I also spend a lot of time looking. I'm an extremely visual person, so platforms like Instagram and Pinterest captivate me. Whether I'm browsing Pinterest, looking back at old photos from trips I've taken, or consuming content from influencers or people doing cool things with their lives, I rarely go a day without feeling some level of excitement, nostalgia, inspiration, or, on the best days, all three. Photos and videos, whether of beautiful architecture, a trendy coffee shop, a GRWM series, or the first snowfall of the season, can all provide inspiration when needed. I've been surprised by what sparks an idea or gets my mind going.

So! In an attempt to share more about what (or who) is inspiring me, what I'm learning, and how these things are playing out in Hemma and my day-to-day life, I'm kicking off this series titled: "Glimpses".

What I write here in these blog posts will tangentially be related to what's going on in the shop, what products I'm carrying, or upcoming workshops I'm excited about. The shop really is a reflection of who I am, and I am made up of what I'm reading, seeing, conversations I'm having, and even the struggles and challenges I'm facing. Therefore,I hope to provide a glimpse into who I am, in an effort to more accurately tell the story of the space you're supporting when you're purchasing, gifting, or being gifted something from Hemma. I'm starting in the present, but I hope to share more about my past and the experiences that inspired and shaped me into the woman, and business-owner, I am today.

Of course, some weeks, the blog may feel uninspiring to you - I'm not worried. Come back the next week, and you may find yourself surprised. So many things need to be read at the perfect time to spark the right thought or plant the seed they're meant to plant.

It may be presumptuous to assume anyone would take the time to read what I've written, but in the end, my writing will stick for some and be forgotten by others. As with the store, I've learned I can't please everyone, but those who take delight in the same things as I do are worth continuing to try to inspire. I hope what you take from this first post - and if you've made it this far, you are the one I'm hoping to inspire - is that sharing more, exposing yourself just a little bit more for the sake of growth and connection, is worth it.

More to come! I'm so excited!

Warmly,

E

Curious about the image? It was generated using Canva's AI image generation tool with the following prompt: a still life painting in the style of matisse or cezane featuring bright colors and muted colors for the fruit; the fruit should be in a wooden bowl on a wooden table with a soft landscape painting in the background. there should be one chair at the end of the table

What a beautiful first piece! Thank you for sharing yourself; that is not an easy thing to do. I will enjoy seeing the world through your eyes. I love you now and always!
